The Miracle of Music

If (when?) I form a face-melting rock band of mythic proportions, this will be our first album cover. The only appreciable difference will be the light rays forming the shape of a Gibson Firebird.

I've been trying to blog for the last three days, but every time I sit down at the computer I feel my brain congeal to concrete and my fingers consolidate to inarticulate flippers. Tonight as I was sitting down to bang my concrete head against the proverbial wall, I actually came up with an uncomfortably personal topic to write about. Thankfully, 'Video Killed the Radio Star' came up on my iTunes shuffle and inspired me to write about the magical ability music has to modify (most frequently mollify) my mood.

Audience participation portion:
  1. What bails you out best when you're feeling beat down?
  2. What does the song 'Video Killed the Radio Star' remind you of? (and yes, there is a right answer to this question)
  3. Suggestions for the afore mentioned face-melting rock band's name.

I'll take question #1, Alex.

It depends on what I'm feeling "down" about. If it's just general sluggishness, some sleep, some coffee, and proper hydration usually work for me.

If its myself, some time in a coffee shop with a journal or some prayer is the general remedy.

If its other people or circumstances, I often try to talk it out with other people or yes, listen to some upbeat jams. I should probably pray more than I do in these circumstances.

If its stress, I have yet to find a way to adequately deal with that problem. Playing the piano, when available, is nice, though.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again. I'll be in town on March 17 or 18 for a week....

Haha, ok, well how about, "Zerstörerbier," for the band name? According to my translation program, it's how you say, "Destroyer Beer" in German.

I think I check out when I'm feeling beat down. I start imagining. I imagine what it would be like to have a partner, to be Marc Broussard, to be around more nature, to be a furniture maker, to build cottage homes, to be in U2... I imagine things differently. I imagine stories, plots, movie ideas... I just tend to imagine. Who knows what the content might be.

Zerstörerbier is a freakin awesome name for a rock band. It's a lock. You want in?

I didn't mean to scare anyone off question two w/ the 'right/wrong' bit. Take a stab, it won't hurt anything. Promise.

hey champ...

1. well feeling beat down? it depends... sometimes derek webb, sometimes shawn mcdonald, sometimes rascal flatts.... it varies so much... throw some screaming music and we'll call it good.

2. the right answer? huh. i'm okay with being wrong... hmmmm lame 80's tv and music videos and grundge rock.... oh it was good.

3. name? hm. how bout "we managed to only sing one good song and it's questionable as to whether or not it was even good" sounds great to me.

I'd be in, but I can't play rock.

I'll let that go if you grow your goatee out really far again.

In the interest of full disclosure: The answer to question number two is, 'Empire Records.'

Thanks for sharing your strategeries, yall.
